Getting to and from the Australian Grand Prix Circuit

Access to the racing circuit is relatively easy, with Albert Park located only 3km from Melbourne' city center.

Melbourne Airport is located about 25km (15.5mi) from the city center and is easily accessible by public transport. The SkyBus offers a shuttle service from the airport to many city centre hotels, operating 24/7. There are also public buses available that depart from the terminal to numerous destinations in and around Melbourne.

The city is well connected by an efficient tram and bus network. It is recommended that visitors purchase a Metcard ahead of time, which allows holders to ride the train, tram and bus.

There is a free tram service from the city to the racing circuit, called the GP Express, which F1 ticket holders can use. Gates 5, 8 and 9 can be accessed on foot from South Yara or Prahran stations. Take the GP Express from Spencer Street (corner of Collins Street) to Gates 1 and 2. The Clarendon Street GP Express to Gates 3 and 4. Take the St. Kilda Road GP Express from Swanston Street (outside Federation Square) to Gates 5, 8, 9, and 10.

Public transport is the best option during the Grand Prix days, however, if you must drive, keep in mind that there is no parking close to the circuit. Drivers have to park at one of the suburban train stations and take a tram or bus, or park in the city and catch the free GP Express to the circuit. The whole area around the racing circuit will become a restricted parking zone, with no parking for spectators, only residents with special permits. Melbourne city officials have no mercy and cars will be towed.

There is special secure parking for those coming on motorcycle or bicycle near Gates 5 and 10, with a helmet and leather storage facility available. Designated bays are provided for limousines in each of the taxi ranks except at Gate 1, where a specific rank is provided. Taxi drop off is at Gates 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, and 10, with taxi pick ups at Gates 1, 2, 4 and 10. Taxi service is available from Gate 8, but only on Saturday and Sunday.

For those with disabilities, free wheelchair accessible vehicles will operate within the circuit. Also, a limited number of wheelchairs will be available for use within the circuit from the Event Office located at Gate 1. The circuit also has several wheelchair accessible toilets.
